The GuidePoint lifetime guarantee

I purchased a Honda Accord a few years ago, and the GuidePoint vehicle recovery system was sold to me by the car dealer. He claimed that purchasing it would give me a lifetime membership to GuidePoint, and that I'd never pay an annual fee (however I'd only get the basic membership package). Also, if I ever bought a new car, I'd have to pay to install the GuidePoint unit into the new car.

However, a year later, GuidePoint sent me a bill for around $90 for the next year's service. I called and explained to 'Sandra' that I was exempt from this, so she said I didn't have to pay the bill.

The next year the same thing happened. But this year, I've heard nothing-- I think my account was quietly terminated. Has anyone else experienced anything like that?

Comments:
The exact same thing happened to me, except mine was worse. The dealer promised I would never have to pay again but a one-time fee when I bought the car. A year later, they charged me again claiming they couldn't activate my account. They blamed the dealer but if I wanted the insurance break, I'd have to cough up another $100 for a one-time-only deal. A year later they sent me bills for an opportunity to continue the "premium" service else they would cancel it. They charged me anyway! Then they demanded $50 closure fee. The business model seems to be bilking customers.
